Le Cercle Rouge

Le Cercle rouge

An acclaimed, atmospheric crime.

When French criminal Corey gets released from prison, he resolves to never return. He is quickly pulled back into the underworld, however, after a chance encounter with escaped murderer Vogel. Along with former policeman and current alcoholic Jansen, they plot an intricate jewel heist. All the while, quirky Police Commissioner Mattei, who was the one to lose custody of Vogel, is determined to find him.

Will Menaker5.0

"Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, drew a circle with a piece of red chalk and said: 'When men, even unknowingly, are to meet one day, whatever may befall each, whatever their diverging paths, on the said day, they will inevitably come together in the red circle.'”Jean Pierre Melville truly one of the most goated directors of all time. In possibly the best team up of "cool guys" ever, a recently released ex-con, an escaped murderer, and an alcoholic ex-police marksman come together to do a heist. I love Melville's Spartan use of dialogue and bleak, muted palette, really lets you meditate on how cool all the guys are.

Matt!4.5

Dudes are so fucking cool. Crime is cool. Jazz is cool. Minimalism, muted earth tones, and bleak endings are cool. French people are fine, I guess. Nothing, though, screams MACHO more than an alcoholic ex-cop shaking off drunken hallucinations of spiders, snakes, and rats so he can fuckin’ mold his own specialized bullet that melts upon impact and then snipe it into a goddamn keyhole during a silent jewelry heist. That shit’s badass.DUDES ROCK CANON
