Born in Covington, Louisiana and now based in Arlington, Texas, Gavin Copeland is stepping into the spotlight that's been years-and a lifetime of moments-in the making. As a child, he sang along to country and soul records, but his voice took a backseat to basketball, and dreaming of becoming the first NBA player to sing the national anthem before tip-off. After high school, he left sports behind and started rapping. It wasn't until his best friend and producer Trey Webb heard Gavin singing in the studio that they realized Gavin's voice was something truly special. The spark truly ignited when Gavin's late brother, Kelton, gave him a challenge just days before his passing: post a video of himself singing opera. That first post went viral, earning over 3 million views-and a new sense of purpose. From there, Gavin began freestyling over random beats online, quickly catching the attention of producers and labels drawn to his raw emotion and fearless vulnerability.
Gavin Copeland blends modern pop and hip-hop with soulful vocals and Southern-rooted storytelling, as heard on his EP "Soul Cries From Texas".
