George Lykogiannis, DMA is a New York-based pianist, composer, and accordionist. A much sought after dance accompanist, Dr. Lykogiannis improvises and composes live music for ballet and modern dance classes in NYC, including at New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and the Juilliard School, among many others. In addition to composing specifically for ballet classes, Dr. Lykogiannis has been commissioned to write original music for dance performances, collaborating with choreographers and premiering new works live across New York and for events such as TEDxPortland. His first album, ALCHEMY, was commissioned by Open Space Dance in Portland, OR. The original ballet was choreographed by Open Space Artistic Directors Franco Nieto, Maeve Dougal, and Charlene Hannibal, and premiered at TEDxPortland in 2024 at the Keller Auditorium. Dr. Lykogiannis's second album, Echoes of the Studio, was commissioned by Ballet Tech Foundation Inc. for students and alumni of Ballet Tech. Featuring an original story and choreography by Ballet Tech Artistic Director Dionne Figgins, the work premiered on 4 June 2026 at The Joyce Theater in New York City. On the accordion, George Lykogiannis performs and tours with various ensembles including the group Floyds Row, playing music that spans a wide range of genres including classical, early music, jazz, punk, folk, and world music.
