An underground experimental pop artist.
Grimm Grimm is the musical project of London-based singer-songwriter, composer and record producer Koichi Yamanoha, originally from West Tokyo, Japan. His music blends experimental pop and futuristic lyricism with the timeless quality of music-box melodies. Throughout his releases, Yamanoha has explored different facets of his musical language, combining a contemporary sound with influences from baroque folk and the English tradition of infinite canons, in which repetitive patterns create an endless, cyclical sense of movement. The melodies often linger long after the songs have ended, haunting the ear like half-remembered nursery rhymes. Guest vocals occasionally introduce the sense of multiple personalities sharing the same dream. He has collaborated with artists and producers including Lori Goldston, Lætitia Sadier, Eiko Ishibashi, Josephine Foster, Klein and Marta Salogni, as well as game designer Hideo Kojima. His music has also found its way into film and video games, most notably in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, in which Yamanoha also makes a cameo appearance. With each release, Grimm Grimm’s sound continues to evolve, drawing listeners into a space where the spiritual and the everyday quietly converge. — Helen Clifford
