An underground jazz artist.
Martin Listabarth is a Viennese jazz pianist and composer known for his cinematic, narrative approach to music — where jazz, classical influences, and pop sensibility meet. Rooted in storytelling, his compositions are inspired by places, encounters, and personal experiences. With his new trio album In Her Footsteps,Listabarth turns to history for the first time: the album traces the life of Ida Pfeiffer, a pioneering 19th-century explorer who defied social conventions and traveled the world alone. Key moments of her journeys are transformed into expressive, melodic jazz — bridging past and present with curiosity, emotional depth, and a strong sense of atmosphere. The Martin Listabarth Trio creates a direct, narrative sound that moves effortlessly between lyrical intimacy and powerful, driving passages. In Her Footsteps is the trio’s third album, following Postcards (2023) and Live in Vienna (2025), and forms the core of their 2026 release tour across Europe. Also Listabarth’s previous solo releases Short Stories and Dedicated have received international attention. Pianist Magazine named him “one to watch,” BR-Klassik highlighted his strong artistic identity, and he was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik as well as the Austrian Jazz Award 2025 (Best Newcomer).
Martin Listabarth plays contemporary piano jazz and chamber-leaning European jazz with a narrative, cinematic approach released via o-tone music.
