A stylish hyperpop artist.
Based in Los Angeles, Melissa Brooks started releasing music under her alternative rock band moniker The Aquadolls in 2012. Inspired by indie pop stars like Grimes and Charli xcx, Brooks began teasing the idea of a potential electronic solo album to Fuse TV in 2015. The following years, Brooks recorded The Aquadolls sophomore LP The Dream and the Deception, produced entirely by herself in a DIY fashion, and released in Fall 2018. Brooks began DJing and headlining at underground queercentric events such as Subculture Party, building up a catalogue of remixes and original material. Brooks earned a spot to open for notorious DJ, R3HAB, in June 2019. After releasing remixes of “Platform Shoes” by Slayyyter and “Ringtone” by 100 gecs on Soundcloud, Brooks began gaining attention from artists in the hyperpop community. Brooks started posting her remixes on Tiktok, finding a viral moment when she remixed “Never Met!” by CMTEN and Glitch Gum. Brooks released her first official solo single “My Kiss” in June 2020, followed by “Straight 2 Hell” featuring underground upcomer Kid Trash and music production from Yung Skrrt. Brooks self released her debut album Bratitude in July 2021. Since, Brooks has released a sparkly collaboration track Barbie (feat. Melissa Brooks) with CHYL via Steve Aoki’s DIMMAK, an EP of four self-released tracks titled Alien Princess, whilst cooking up new tunes for a 2026 album.
Melissa Brooks creates high-energy hyperpop and electronic dance music, often incorporating Y2K and Barbiecore aesthetics, with releases including her debut album "Bratitude."
