An underground indie pop artist.
Singer, multidisciplinary musician, composer, and catalan producer. He studied jazz and classical music in Barcelona and Belgium, notably composition with Frederic Rzewsky (Conservatory of Liège) and Philippe Boesmans in Brussels. He has released several albums with many different ensembles (Os Meus Shorts, Carate Urio Orchestra, The Crappy Mini Band, Music for Rabbits…), and toured in Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Mexico or USA. His most consistent project, however, is as a singer-songwriter, with five albums of original songs released under his own name. In these works he reveals a highly ironic narrative voice and great sensitivity. Sometimes macabre, sometimes tender, his imaginative world is as broad as it is unexpected. Far removed from trends, his clear intention is to tell “surreally real” stories and accompany them with music as varied as his musical background. The presentation of the album "Yo siempre sueño que sí" at L’Auditori de Barcelona can be viewed on the platforms 3cat o Caixaforum+. He has also collaborated with artists such as Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Rita Payés, Lucia Fumero, Enric Montefusco, Kiko Veneno, Rodrigo Cuevas, Marina Rossell, Maria Rodés, Aleix Tobias or Refree, working as a producer, session musician, or within his own projects. He has worked extensively in the performing arts, including numerous collaborations with the theatre company Agrupación Sr. Serrano (Immut, Mad, Kingdom, The Mountain, and Una Isla).
Nico Roig blends indie pop, folk, and jazz influences with a unique singer-songwriter approach, often featuring ironic and 'surreally real' narratives.
