Stellan Veloce

Stellan Veloce is a Berlin-based Sardinian composer and cellist. They compose for instrumental ensembles and contemporary dance productions. Their music focuses on timbres, repetition and sound densities, integrating composition with improvisation and band playing practices. Their traditional music background is a constant subliminal inspiration for their work. Veloce studied cello at the conservatory of Cagliari and composition at the Universität der Künste Berlin and at the California Institute of the Arts. Occasionally they work touring or in the studio in the pop music sphere. Most recently with pop icon Peaches and before with Kat Frankie, Dear Reader and KENICHI & THE SUN among others. They are part of the queer rock band Danso Key since 2010 and from 2022, of the electro-acoustical project Gotzos with Launeddas player Carlo Spiga. Together with composer Neo Hülcker they conceive performance pieces like Ear Action (2016), a one on one aural and tactile experience moving between musical composition, performance and treatment. Veloce's first LP release “Complesso Spettro”, coming out for Hyperdelia in 2022, includes 2 long ensemble pieces which act as a bridge between the different souls that inhabit Veloce's artistic research, experimental rock and contemporary music.
