A nostalgic, underground choral night.
Alexandra Palace, Alexandra Palace Way, London N22 7AY, UK
Jakob Lehmann returns to conduct the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique for a performance of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle. Described by the composer as his last 'sin of old age', this work was originally scored for twelve singers, two pianos, and harmonium. Rossini orchestrated the piece shortly before his death, creating a sound world that exists between devotion and drama. The performance features period instruments to recreate the unique acoustic environment of 19th-century Paris.
