Yngwie Malmsteen

Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen is a pioneering figure in heavy metal, celebrated for his highly technical neo-classical style. Born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck in Stockholm, he became interested in the guitar at age seven after watching a Jimi Hendrix special. Almost entirely self-taught, he developed a unique approach influenced by classical composers and the heavy metal riffing of Ritchie Blackmore. Since his solo debut, Malmsteen has become an icon for his speed and dexterity, influencing generations of musicians and being one of the first artists to receive a signature Fender Stratocaster.
