Imagine a person who played chess from childhood, and a person who baked cakes from childhood. Combine them and ask them to write a song. In January 2023, Aurora Marchese and Mikael Máni Ásmundsson met in Amsterdam, brought together by a shared love for lyrics, jazz ballads, and chocolate. This connection grew into KHEMEIA, blending Italian emotional depth with Icelandic poetic guitar styling. The project's name stems from the Greek word khemeia, meaning to fuse or melt together. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2025 and nominated for Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2026.
