A nostalgic, slow-burn opera night.
Französische Str. 33D, 10117 Berlin, Germany
Des Knaben Wunderhorn, published at the beginning of the 19th century by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano, remains the most influential German-language song collection to this day. These more than 700 poems served as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Gustav Mahler and many others. In the first "Lied und Lyrik" program of the season, pianist Julius Drake joins mezzo-soprano Marie Seidler and baritone Jusung Gabriel Park to present both famous and obscure settings of these poems spanning the 18th to 20th centuries. The musical performances are complemented by readings of the original texts.
