Staged at the Estonian National Opera, Charon is an opera composed by Tõnis Kaumann with a libretto by Andrus Kivirähk. Rooted in ancient Greek mythology, the story follows the underworld ferryman Charon, who defies the god of death after falling in love with Niobe, a departed soul. When Niobe becomes pregnant, Charon enlists the sleep god Hypnos to help her escape back to the realm of the living, incurring the wrath of Hades.
