Ensemble Cité des Dames presents early baroque music and visual art exploring the legacies of Artemisia Gentileschi and Barbara Strozzi. Lineup on Mood.
Part of the Early Music Series, Sonus Feminae #9 turns its focus to art, biography, and female self-assertion through the lives and legacies of painter Artemisia Gentileschi and singer/composer Barbara Strozzi. Opening with an art-historical lecture by Dr. Katja Triebel, the performance weaves together early baroque music, projections of Gentileschi's paintings by video artist Martin Boverhof, and spoken historical transcripts. Directed by Iñigo Giner Miranda, the evening features madrigals, cantatas, arias, and duets performed by Ensemble Cité des Dames with guest vocalists.
