A nostalgic, underground chamber music night.
German violinist Isabelle Faust reunites with her long-term duo partner Alexander Melnikov for a poetic programme of sonatas by Schumann and Brahms. Having explored and recorded these works over many years, the pair brings a combination of historically-informed performance and creative freedom to the stage. The recital features Schumann's impetuous violin sonatas alongside his tender Fantasiestücke and Brahms’s lyrical Violin Sonata No. 1, which incorporates themes from his own Rain Song.
