A trio of works from the early, middle and late periods of Beethoven’s creative life reveal his inexhaustible range and depth of invention. The Belcea Quartet’s programme travels from the radiant wit and charm of Op. 18 No. 2 to reach the heart-quickening intensity of the aptly entitled Quartetto serioso and the transcendent, mystical beauty of the monumental Quartet in C sharp minor. This performance is part of the Belcea Quartet Beethoven Cycle.
