Experience the hypnotic jazz fusion of Los Angeles-based quintet SML as they bring their experimental grooves to Gretchen, Berlin on November 18, 2026.
SML is a quintet featuring prominent figures from the Los Angeles jazz, improvisation, and indie music scenes. The group deconstructs and reassembles jazz in real-time, utilizing loops and transformations that blur the lines between guitar, synthesizers, and studio editing. Their sound focuses on the collective pulse and hypnotic grooves rather than individual solos, drawing influence from 1970s jazz, German avant-garde rock, and contemporary sample-based production. Following their acclaimed debut 'Small Medium Large', the band's second album 'How You Been' (2025) further explores their process-oriented approach, blending elements of Afrobeat, cosmic music, and proto-techno into a high-definition Klangpraxis that looks toward the future of the genre.
