Bachata-events in Amsterdam

Originating in the rural Dominican Republic during the mid-20th century, Bachata is a prominent Latin genre that evolved from bolero and son traditions. The music is fundamentally characterized by its signature instrumentation, featuring the requinto lead guitar, rhythm guitar, electric bass, bongos, and the metallic scraping of the güira. Its rhythmic foundation typically follows a 4/4 time signature with a distinctive syncopated accent on the fourth beat, creating a soulful yet danceable mid-tempo pulse. Emotionally, the genre is defined by amargue, a sense of bitter melancholy and romantic longing, though modern iterations often incorporate polished pop production to reach broad mainstream audiences across the global music landscape.
