British Jazz-events deze maand in Amsterdam

Emerging in the early 20th century, British jazz initially mirrored American ragtime and swing before establishing a unique identity through post-WWII movements like trad jazz and the radical experimentalism of the 1960s. Typical instrumentation revolves around traditional brass, woodwinds, and piano, though modern iterations frequently incorporate electronic elements and diverse global influences. Rhythmic characteristics range from the classic syncopation of bebop to the complex, irregular meters found in contemporary London-based fusion. The genre maintains a sophisticated yet often exploratory mood, acting as a semantic bridge between established American hard bop traditions and distinctly European improvisational styles. Today, it thrives by synthesizing heritage jazz with modern UK urban sounds like grime and electronic music.
