Cloud Rap-events in Amsterdam

Cloud rap emerged in the late 2000s as an ethereal subgenre of hip hop, popularized by artists like Lil B and producers like Clams Casino via internet platforms. Characterized by its hazy, dreamlike atmosphere, the genre heavily utilizes spacious synthesizers, reverb-drenched samples, and heavy 808 drum patterns to create a surrealist soundscape. The rhythmic structures typically mirror trap music but are slowed down to a lethargic, psychedelic pace, resulting in a mood that fluctuates between melancholic introspection and detached euphoria. It serves as a bridge between underground Southern hip hop and experimental ambient music, focusing more on textural abstraction and melodic mumbles than traditional lyrical complexity.
