Dark Cabaret-events dit weekend in Amsterdam

Dark cabaret is a theatrical genre that emerged in the late 20th century, blending the decadent aesthetic of Weimar-era Germany with the subversive ethos of post-punk and gothic rock. Typical instrumentation features acoustic elements such as piano, accordion, cello, and violin, often delivered with a dramatic, vaudevillian flair. Rhythms frequently incorporate waltz or oompah structures, creating a tempo that fluctuates between slow, haunting ballads and frenetic, cabaret-style romps. Characterized by a macabre and cynical mood, the genre bridges the gap between orchestral folk and alternative rock while maintaining a strong semantic connection to neo-burlesque and steampunk culture through its emphasis on narrative storytelling.
