Drone Metal-concerten en liveshows in Amsterdam

Drone metal originated in the early 1990s, primarily pioneered by bands like Earth, who fused the glacial pacing of doom metal with the sustained textures of minimalist music and noise. The genre is characterized by extremely slow tempos and a focus on resonant, heavily distorted guitar and bass drones that emphasize texture and vibration over traditional melodic or rhythmic structures. Typical instrumentation involves down-tuned string instruments and massive amplification, often omitting percussion entirely to create an immersive, oppressive, and meditative atmosphere. As a descendant of sludge and doom, it occupies a unique sonic space where the boundaries between heavy metal and dark ambient music dissolve into monolithic soundscapes.
