East Coast Hip Hop-events in Amsterdam

Originating in New York City during the late 1970s and 1980s, East Coast Hip-Hop is defined by its lyrical dexterity and boom-bap rhythmic structure. The genre typically employs Akai MPC samplers and Technics turntables to layer jazz, funk, and soul samples over heavy, syncopated drum patterns. Musically, it maintains a mid-tempo pace, often characterized by a gritty, urban atmosphere and complex multi-syllabic rhyme schemes that emphasize storytelling and social commentary. As a foundational pillar of the broader global hip-hop movement, it shares close semantic ties with boom-bap and hardcore hip-hop while serving as the primary historical precursor to various modern rap subgenres.
