Garage Punk-events in Amsterdam

Emerging in the late 1980s as a raw fusion, garage punk combines the unpolished aesthetic of 1960s garage rock with the aggressive speed and DIY ethos of 1970s punk rock. Typical instrumentation focuses on heavily distorted electric guitars, driving bass lines, and frantic, stripped-back drumming, often captured through intentional lo-fi recording techniques. The genre is characterized by fast tempos, repetitive power-chord structures, and a rebellious, high-energy mood that prioritizes visceral impact and amateurism over technical musical precision. Semantically situated between mid-century proto-punk and modern hardcore, it remains a vital underground movement that rejects commercial radio polish in favor of extreme grit and sonic immediacy.
