Indie Dance-events in Amsterdam

Indie Dance emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a fusion of indie rock sensibilities with the burgeoning electronic dance music culture, notably influenced by the Madchester scene and alternative dance. Typical instrumentation blends traditional rock elements like electric guitars and live drums with synthesizers, drum machines, and sequencers. The genre is characterized by a steady 4/4 beat at moderate tempos, creating a mood that is both infectious and slightly detached or introspective. It serves as a bridge between the raw energy of post-punk and the repetitive, groove-oriented structure of house music, maintaining a focus on songcraft within a club-oriented framework.
