Jazz Orchestra-events deze week in Amsterdam

Jazz orchestra, colloquially known as big band, emerged in the early 20th century and reached its cultural zenith during the 1930s Swing Era. These large ensembles typically consist of twelve to twenty-five musicians organized into distinct brass, woodwind, and rhythm sections, featuring instruments such as saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and piano. Characterized by intricate written arrangements and syncopated swing rhythms, the music spans a wide emotional spectrum from high-energy, propulsive dance numbers to sophisticated, romantic ballads. Semantically, it represents the orchestral expansion of smaller jazz combos, blending improvisational elements with the disciplined structure of classical ensembles to create a powerful, wall-of-sound aesthetic.
