Modern Salsa-events vanavond in Amsterdam

Modern salsa emerged from the evolution of the 1970s New York salsa scene, blending traditional Cuban son montuno and mambo with contemporary production techniques. Its core instrumentation features a robust brass section, piano, and intricate Afro-Caribbean percussion including congas, timbales, and bongos, all anchored by the fundamental clave rhythm. The genre typically maintains a moderate to fast tempo with a highly syncopated and driving feel, creating a mood that is vibrantly festive yet often contains sophisticated jazz-influenced harmonic structures. As a direct descendant of the Latin jazz and boogaloo eras, modern salsa serves as the primary bridge between folk-based tropical traditions and globalized commercial Latin pop.
