Musique Ancienne-events deze maand in Amsterdam

Musique ancienne, or early music, encompasses the Western European classical tradition from the fall of the Roman Empire through the Baroque period of the mid-18th century. Utilizing period-accurate instrumentation such as the lute, harpsichord, and viola da gamba, this genre emphasizes historically informed performance practices that distinguish it from modern orchestral standards. The rhythmic structures vary significantly between the fluid monophony of medieval chants and the polyphonic intricacies of Renaissance madrigals, typically maintaining a refined, scholarly, or liturgical mood. Serving as the foundational ancestor to the Common Practice Period, it bridges the gap between ancient vocal traditions and the structured harmonic tonality of the Classical era.
