New Orleans Funk-events deze maand in Amsterdam

Emerging from the vibrant cultural landscape of Louisiana in the 1960s, New Orleans funk is a syncopated evolution of rhythm and blues and jazz traditions. This genre is defined by its "second line" street beat, characterized by complex, staggered drumming and deep, interlocking basslines that emphasize the "pocket." Instrumentation typically features a prominent brass section, scratching electric guitars, and soulful keyboards like the Hammond B3 organ. The mood is inherently celebratory and gritty, maintaining a visceral connection to the city's parade culture while serving as a foundational pillar for modern funk. It bridges the gap between traditional Dixieland jazz and the harder, more commercial funk sounds developed in other American urban centers.
