Psychedelic Pop-events in Amsterdam

Emerging in the mid-1960s, psychedelic pop blends the melodic accessibility of traditional pop with the experimental, mind-expanding sounds of psychedelic rock. It typically features lush and varied instrumentation, incorporating electric guitars with heavy reverb, mellotrons, sitars, and intricate multi-tracked vocal harmonies to create a surreal, dreamlike atmosphere. The genre maintains a moderate, steady tempo and conventional song structures while utilizing avant-garde studio effects like backmasking and phasing to distort the auditory experience. Acting as a crucial bridge between the mainstream and the underground, it directly influenced later movements such as neo-psychedelia and dream pop by prioritizing sonic texture and whimsical, kaleidoscopic songwriting.
