No Wave-events in Athene

No Wave emerged from the New York City underground scene in the late 1970s as a nihilistic and confrontational reaction against the perceived commercialization of punk and New Wave. Typically defined by abrasive, atonal instrumentation, it utilizes dissonant electric guitars, shrieking saxophones, and jagged, non-linear percussion to create a stark, anti-harmonic soundscape. The genre prioritizes texture and raw sonic impact over traditional melodic structures, often drawing structural influence from free jazz, avant-garde classical music, and performance art. This short-lived but influential movement served as a crucial precursor to noise rock and industrial music by stripping rock music down to its most visceral, dissonant elements.
