Second Line-events dit weekend in Austin

Originating from the jazz funeral traditions of New Orleans, second line is a vibrant musical style characterized by its infectious, syncopated march rhythms and communal celebratory spirit. The instrumentation typically features a full brass section including trumpets, trombones, and sousaphones, anchored by a polyrhythmic percussion duo of snare and bass drums. Its distinct "between the cracks" swing tempo creates a high-energy, danceable atmosphere that bridges the gap between traditional military marches and modern street funk. Serving as the rhythmic backbone of New Orleans cultural identity, second line remains a foundational influence on contemporary brass band music and early jazz developments.
