Tex Mex-events deze week in Austin

Tex-Mex, also known as Tejano music, originated in South Texas during the late 19th century as a cultural fusion between Mexican folk traditions and the polkas brought by German and Czech settlers. The genre is characterized by the prominent use of the button accordion and the twelve-string bajo sexto, often backed by a rhythmic section of bass and drums. Its rhythmic foundation typically features upbeat 2/4 polka or 3/4 waltz tempos, creating a festive and highly danceable atmosphere that ranges from sentimental ballads to energetic celebrations. Evolving from rural roots into a sophisticated blend of country, pop, and rock, Tex-Mex remains a vital link between traditional Mexican ranchera and modern American regional music.
