Kora-events in Barcelona

Kora music originates from the Manding culture of West Africa, specifically within the hereditary musical lineage of the Jali or Griot storytellers. Central to this genre is the 21-string harp-lute known as the kora, which produces a delicate, cascading sound often accompanied by polyrhythmic patterns on the calabash. The music is characterized by intricate melodic cycles and a serene, meditative mood that facilitates oral history and spiritual reflection. While it remains deeply rooted in traditional West African folk, its sophisticated harmonic structures have historically influenced jazz and contemporary acoustic world music, serving as a bridge between ancestral storytelling and modern instrumental virtuosity while maintaining a high level of acoustic purity.
