Big Beat-events in Berlin

Emerging from the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, big beat is a high-energy electronic subgenre that bridges the gap between alternative rock, hip hop, and techno. It is defined by heavy, syncopated breakbeats, distorted basslines, and a reliance on diverse samples, ranging from classic funk loops to psychedelic rock riffs. Typically performed at a moderate tempo of 120 to 140 beats per minute, the genre prioritizes a raw, powerful sound characterized by its intense rhythmic impact and club-ready accessibility. As a bridge between underground rave culture and mainstream pop, big beat remains culturally significant for its influence on the development of modern breakbeat and electronic dance music production.
