Catalan Folk-concerten en liveshows in Berlin

Catalan folk, or musica popular catalana, is a traditional genre rooted in the cultural history of Catalonia, characterized by its deep connection to Mediterranean and Pyrenean heritage. Typical instrumentation prominently features the gralla, a high-pitched double-reed woodwind, accompanied by the flabiol and tambori, or the larger cobla ensembles used for the iconic sardana circle dance. Rhythms often alternate between steady, communal pulses and lively dance meters, creating an atmosphere that shifts from introspective storytelling to vibrant, high-energy celebrations. Evolving from medieval roots, it maintains a strong semantic link to Occitan folk while influencing contemporary movements like Nova Canco, balancing raw acoustic textures with a rich melodic focus.
