Japanese Folk-concerten en liveshows in Berlin

Japanese folk music, primarily known as Min'yō, originated from the everyday lives of laborers, farmers, and fishermen across the Japanese archipelago. Traditionally performed using instruments like the three-stringed shamisen, the bamboo shakuhachi flute, and powerful taiko drums, these songs often reflect regional identities and seasonal festivities. The genre typically employs pentatonic scales and rhythmic structures that mirror physical tasks, resulting in a mood that shifts between profound melancholy and vibrant, communal energy. While strictly traditional in its roots, Japanese folk maintains a deep semantic connection to Enka and has significantly influenced modern Japanese pop and experimental music through its distinctive vocal ornamentations.
