Baroque Violin-events dit weekend in Bordeaux

Emerging in the 17th century, the baroque violin is defined by its gut strings, shorter neck, and the use of an outward-curving bow, which produces a warmer, more transparent timbre than its modern counterpart. This genre encompasses solo and ensemble music characterized by intricate ornamentation, steady motoric rhythms, and varied tempos derived from courtly dance forms like the sarabande and gigue. The performance practice emphasizes a lack of chin rests or shoulder rests, creating an intimate, resonant sound that bridges the gap between Renaissance string music and the later Classical era. Often evoking moods of regal elegance or profound melancholy, it remains a cornerstone of the Early Music movement and historical performance practice.
