Jamaican Ska-events dit weekend in Boekarest

Jamaican ska emerged in the late 1950s as a vibrant fusion of traditional mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. This high-energy genre is defined by its distinctive walking basslines and an emphasis on the upbeat, often referred to as the "skank" rhythm, typically delivered by a sharp brass section and rhythmic electric guitar. Its fast-paced tempo and celebratory mood created a foundation for the subsequent evolution of rocksteady and reggae while maintaining a unique identity centered on dance-oriented syncopation. As a precursor to modern Caribbean sounds, ska remains a seminal influence on global pop and punk movements, characterized by its infectious horn arrangements and driving, optimistic percussion.
