Free Jazz-concerten en liveshows in Cluj-Napoca

Free jazz emerged in the late 1950s as a radical departure from traditional structures, pioneered by figures like Ornette Coleman who sought to dismantle fixed chord progressions and meters. Utilizing standard jazz instrumentation such as saxophone, trumpet, and double bass, the genre prioritizes collective improvisation and extended techniques over conventional melodic development. Its rhythmic characteristics are defined by a fluid sense of pulse or polyrhythmic density rather than a steady beat, resulting in moods that range from spiritually transcendent to intensely chaotic. Semantically linked to avant-garde jazz, it functions as a bridge between post-bop and free improvisation, emphasizing absolute expressive freedom and technical experimentation over mainstream commercial accessibility.
