Portuguese Jazz-concerten en liveshows in Lissabon

Portuguese jazz is a sophisticated fusion genre that emerged in the mid-20th century, evolving from a fascination with American bebop into a distinct national style that integrates traditional Iberian elements. The instrumentation typically features standard jazz quartets or quintets, often incorporating the unique timbre of the Portuguese guitar to evoke a sense of cultural identity. Rhythmically, it traverses a range from structured swing to fluid, rubato-heavy passages that mirror the emotive phrasing of Fado. This genre is defined by its reflective and lyrical mood, frequently exploring the concept of saudade through intricate improvisations that maintain a melodic accessibility distinct from more avant-garde European jazz circles.
