2 Step-events in London

Emerging from the United Kingdom's garage scene in the late 1990s, 2-step is a rhythmically sophisticated subgenre characterized by its irregular kick drum patterns and syncopated percussion. Unlike the steady four-to-the-floor pulse of traditional house, it typically omits the second and fourth beats, creating a distinctive skipping feel that emphasizes groove and swing over rigid repetition. The instrumentation often blends deep, rolling sub-bass lines with soulful R&B-influenced vocal chops and slick synthesizer chords, usually maintaining a tempo around 130 BPM. This genre serves as a crucial bridge between speed garage and the later development of dubstep and grime, maintaining a mood that is both urban and polished.
