Modern Free Jazz-concerten en liveshows in London

Modern free jazz is an avant-garde evolution of traditional jazz that emerged in the mid-20th century, characterized by a deliberate rejection of fixed chord progressions, standard meters, and traditional structures. Typically featuring instrumentation such as saxophones, trumpets, and percussion, the genre prioritizes collective improvisation and sonic texture over melodic repetition. Its rhythmic profile is often ametrical or polyrhythmic, creating an unpredictable and high-energy atmosphere that ranges from visceral intensity to delicate, abstract exploration. Semantically, it bridges the gap between post-bop experimentation and contemporary avant-garde music, emphasizing total creative autonomy and the dissolution of the boundary between soloist and accompanist.
