Arabic Jazz-events deze week in Los Angeles

Arabic Jazz is a sophisticated fusion genre that emerged in the mid-20th century, seamlessly blending American jazz improvisation with the complex melodic and rhythmic structures of traditional Arabic music. It typically features a diverse, cross-cultural instrumentation ensemble incorporating instruments like the oud, kanun, and nay alongside standard jazz staples such as the saxophone, piano, and double bass. The genre is characterized by the implementation of Maqamat, which introduce quarter-tones and intricate microtonality into Western harmonic frameworks, often set against complex Iqa'at rhythmic cycles. Its mood ranges from introspective and mystical to vibrant and experimental, serving as a vital bridge between Middle Eastern folk traditions and global contemporary jazz movements.
