Heavy Psych-events in Los Angeles

Heavy psych emerged in the late 1960s as a harder, more aggressive evolution of psychedelic rock, effectively bridging the gap between acid rock and early heavy metal. The genre is characterized by thick, fuzzed-out guitar riffs, expansive improvisational jams, and high-volume distortion, often utilizing effects like wah-wah and delay to create immersive soundscapes. Rhythmically, it maintains a blues-based foundation but operates at a higher intensity, with powerful, swinging drum performances that emphasize weight over speed. This style conveys a mood that is simultaneously lysergic and menacing, reflecting the transition from the optimistic hippie era into the darker, more visceral sonic explorations of the 1970s.
