Coldwave-events deze week in Madrid

Coldwave emerged in the late 1970s from the post-punk and electronic scenes of France and Belgium, characterized by an icy, detached aesthetic. The genre typically utilizes minimalist instrumentation, including analog synthesizers, clinical drum machines, and often monochromatic, low-register vocals that emphasize a sense of urban alienation. Rhythmically, it favors steady, mechanical tempos that create a stark, atmospheric mood, bridging the gap between the raw urgency of punk and the nascent gothic rock movements. Semantically, it is closely related to minimal wave and darkwave, serving as a foundational pillar for European underground electronic music during the early eighties.
