Galician Folk-events vanavond in Madrid

Galician folk, or música folk galega, originated in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain, deeply rooted in Celtic and Atlantic cultural traditions. Its sonic identity is defined by the gaita (Galician bagpipes), zanfona (hurdy-gurdy), and various percussion instruments like the pandereta and bombo. Rhythms are typically driven by the muiñeira's 6/8 time signature or the jota's 3/4 meter, ranging from contemplative, melancholic melodies expressing saudade to energetic, festive dance pieces. While distinct from the Mediterranean sounds of southern Spain, it shares significant historical and structural affinities with Irish and Breton folk music through its modal scales and piping techniques.
