Soul-events in Marseille

Soul music emerged in the United States during the late 1950s and early 1960s, fusing the spiritual intensity of African American gospel with the secular rhythms of jazz and rhythm and blues. This genre is defined by its powerful, emotive vocal performances, often supported by brass sections, Hammond organs, and a driving rhythmic section that emphasizes a deep, syncopated groove. While its tempo typically ranges from moderate ballads to upbeat dance tracks, the mood remains consistently passionate, raw, and centered on themes of love and resilience. As a foundational pillar of modern music, soul bridges the gap between traditional blues and the subsequent rise of funk, disco, and contemporary R&B.
