Chillwave-events in Milaan

Emerging in the late 2000s as an internet-born microgenre, chillwave blends elements of 1980s synth-pop, shoegaze, and indie electronic music to create a distinctively nostalgic and escapist soundscape. The instrumentation relies heavily on vintage analog synthesizers, hazy drum machine patterns, and heavily processed, reverb-drenched vocals that often blend into the background as melodic textures. Characterized by a moderate-to-slow tempo and a lo-fi production aesthetic, the genre evokes a dreamy, summery atmosphere through its use of shimmering melodies and filtered frequencies. It functions as a predecessor to vaporwave and lo-fi hip hop, maintaining a strong semantic link to glo-fi and hypnagogic pop by emphasizing memory-laden, retro-futuristic sonic motifs.
