Tape Club-events in New York City

Tape Club emerged in the early 2010s as a gritty, analog-focused offshoot of Lo-Fi House and Outsider House, rooted in the aesthetic of magnetic tape saturation. The genre is characterized by the use of vintage hardware such as TR-909 drum machines and analog synthesizers, which are processed through cassette decks to achieve a distinctive warm, distorted hiss. Its rhythmic structure maintains a steady four-on-the-floor pulse typically ranging from 120 to 125 BPM, blending dancefloor functionality with a nostalgic, hazy, and often melancholic mood. Semantically, Tape Club bridges the gap between underground electronic club music and the experimental textures of noise music, prioritizing raw, unpolished sonics over mainstream high-fidelity production.
